On 18 July, Their Royal Highnesses visited the fishing town of Newlyn, investigating the working harbour market and meeting local fishermen who showcased a selection of locally caught fish. Chairman of Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners, Mr Rob Clifford-Wing, introduced TRH to local initiatives that improved sustainable practices in the area. They met representatives from the National Lobster Hatchery with their baby lobsters and Fishy Filaments, a fishing net recycling company. The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall then visited Argoe restaurant which supports the local fishing fleet by championing underrated cuts of fish, specialising in using ‘by-catch’ on their menu and using only sustainable fish. Their Royal Highnesses tasted a selection of delicious, locally-sourced dishes presented by the proprietor Mr Richard Adams. To conclude the visit, The Duke of Cornwall popped in to The Copper Works workshop meeting Director Mr Michael Johnson and his industrious sculptors and students, discussing the historic Arts & Crafts Newlyn Copper industry and the contemporary work done today.
