HMS Tamar, one of 5 new Offshore Patrol Vessels – and currently the greenest ship in the Royal Navy – is affiliated to Cornwall, Truro and the China Fleet Club in Saltash. The Lieutenancy helps to support and coordinate the close ties between the Ship and Cornwall in a variety of ways.

Taking part in and presenting awards at suitable ceremonies.
On a limited number of occasions each year, the Lord-Lieutenant is happy to come to speak to groups of people about the role of the Lord-Lieutenant.
Celebrating and encouraging volunteering, community service and the work of youth organisations, through visits or engagement with such organisations.
Although fund-raising is not a specific role of the Lieutenancy, on occasions, the Lord-Lieutenant or one of his deputies may be prepared to assist in some way with fund-raising appeals in Cornwall.
Between them, members of the Lieutenancy have a wide knowledge of organisations and people in Cornwall and may be able to assist in putting suitable people and voluntary organisations in touch with one another.
When appropriate, and most likely in connection with a visit, the Lieutenancy may be able to help in generating media coverage of an organisation’s work.
