There are normally three Garden Parties each year at Buckingham Palace, attended by members of the Royal Family and about 8,000 guests.

These are made up from people from all walks of life who have made a major contribution to the community in all sorts of ways. Those who are invited get a chance to see something of the Palace and its wonderful grounds in the presence of the Royal Family, have the chance to mingle with the other distinguished and interesting guests, with a delicious tea as well.

Each year the Lieutenancy is invited to provide Buckingham Palace with the names of around 30 people who deserve an invitation, through their work or voluntary commitment.  Everyone invited can take a guest of their choice along with them.

If you feel that someone in Cornwall has made a major contribution to life in the community, or has provided exceptional service in any other way, you could recommend that they are invited to a garden party.

Please let us know by completing the attached form and returning it to the Lieutenancy Office.

People only get invited to a Garden Party once, so please do not nominate those who have already been. Please also do not tell them that they have been nominated, in case we are unable to get them an invitation.

You can nominate someone at any time throughout the year, but decisions over who will go are made in December, so nominate people by then if you would like them to have a chance of going to one of the next year’s Garden Parties.  If they are unsuccessful in the first year, we will keep that nomination for a further year unless you tell us otherwise.
