The High Sheriff of Cornwall has presented 22 Unsung Hero Awards to individuals and teams across the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust and Cornwall Partnership Foundation Trust.

The awards were presented in a socially distanced live streamed ceremony in the Royal Cornwall Hospital Chapel.

Recipients ranged from Bodmin Hospital’s Garner Ward Team delivering exceptional care to dementia patients, to the Volunteer Vaccination Team at Royal Cornwall Hospital, Chief Pharmacist Iain Davidson, Learning Disability Nurse Karen Connor from Redruth and Dom Whitting Senior Healthcare Chaplain and the Chaplaincy Team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

“It was a privilege to recognise just some of the phenomenal work of the NHS in Cornwall over the last year,” commented Kate Holborow, High Sheriff  of Cornwall.  “The citations make for extraordinary, humbling and emotional reading, evidence of the camaraderie and team work within the NHS that is carrying us through the pandemic.  Congratulations to all these very deserving recipients and thank you to all working in the NHS in Cornwall for their bravery, flexibility, personal sacrifice and dogged determination.  Thanks echoed I know by all our Cornish communities.”
